*** Purple Martin Update ***
We have babies!! The CKA is proud to announce the arrival of the 2023 cohort of Purple Martin babies. Ten of the 12 nest boxes contain baby birds. As you can see from the photos below not everyone laid their eggs at the same time so some of the birds are in different stages of development. The adults are present at the nest boxes nearly all the time now bringing insects to feed the young birds. Everyone is very vocal and there is an air of activity and excitement. They are really fun to watch.
This season is even more productive than last season because there are more nest boxes this year than last. This is only the third breeding season the nest boxes have been at this location and the productivity is striking. We are very lucky to have this level of success so soon after the structure was installed.
The last photo of the rod in the ground is the support rod for the new gourd rack across the street from the gourd rack in the parking lot next to the hardware store. This is the first step in installing the new rack. It will need to set for a few days so the concrete can harden and then the rest of the structure can be installed.

Membership Committee Update
Hello all! Let’s catch up!
Cedar Keys Audubon has a new Board President, Janie VeltKamp. In addition, we have new Board Members, Mike Hamilton, Donna Thalacker and Bill Rucker. Welcome to all of them.
Mike has begun working on updating our Audubon website and FB page. Watch for a new look and current information at those locations in the near future.
In the meantime, we are working on our email list. Our list has not been updated in a while, so we are tackling the task of making sure everyone on the email list is an active member of Cedar Keys Audubon, either through National Assignment to Cedar Keys or directly with the Local Chapter.
If you are not currently a member, or need to renew your membership, and would like to remain on this email list to get Audubon updates, alerts of our great upcoming Speaker Series and news of local nature success stories, please fill out the attached Membership Form and mail it in (Cedar Keys Audubon address is at the bottom of the attached form). Forms available for download in the Membership and Join section.
If you’re not sure of your membership status, reply to this email and we will easily look up your name and let you know if records show you to be current.
We will be updating the list in August. So please send in your new Membership Forms, Renewal Forms, or requests for us to research your status by the end of July.
We are looking forward to sharing news, events and some adventures in the upcoming season. So please stay tuned!
Thanks from the Membership Committee
